About the Event
Do you remember our theme this year is about connections? Boom! Corona hit! Most of us haven't had a UMW meeting in months. How can we stay connected?
Do you love to read? Do you think maybe you should get into reading? Do you like to read, but then you have no one to talk to about the book? Have you thought about doing the Reading Program, but just not gotten into it? Do you have time on your hands while in lockdown? This is for you, no matter where you are at.
Our East Central District (ECD) will be hosting a Zoom Book Club, featuring one book from our reading program each month. This will NOT be a book review. It will include discussion chats, polls, etc., just like an in-person book club. Wear your pj's if you want. Have a cuppa if you want.
Our ECD President, Anne Winn, has learned tons about hostessing Zoom meetings. We can have separate chat groups within the meeting, we can take polls (ie, did you like the book), etc., right from the comfort of your own home. Anne will be our Zoom hostess, and I'll facilitate our meetings with her.
Our first meeting will be July 7, at 7 p.m. Easy to remember! Our first book will be Threading My Prayer Rug, by Sabeeha Rehman, Education for Mission, 2019. This memoir features food for thought over what might be difficult issues (arranged marriage, etc.), but in a gentle way. It's a fast read because once started you can't put it down. Let's learn about a different culture together!
Remember, your local library might have this book. It is also available on Amazon as print or kindle or audible.
In the future you'll have more notice of the next book, but we are just getting started here. Grant grace, and join us!
